Job summary
Due to retirement, Old Harlow Health Centre has a great opportunity for an experienced practice nurse to join our team on a part-time basis, for 23 hours per week, working Wednesday to Friday. The practice serves a population of just under 12 000 patients and is continuing to grow.
We are particularly looking for applicants with areas of special interest and experience including:
- Respiratory conditions
- Diabetes management
- Minor illness
- Family Planning - coils and implants
- HRT, menopause, women's health
Main duties of the job
- Undertaking health assessments, administering medication and treatments, and performing diagnostic tests.
- Providing and evaluating a range of health interventions to ensure that patients health and social care needs are met.
- General health and well-being promotion as well as creating individual, person-centred plans for patients with, or at risk of, a long term condition.
- Managing and treating long-term conditions, in line with national and local policies and the practice needs.
- Reviewing medication for therapeutic effectiveness, in accordance with evidence-based practice as well as national and practice protocols; working with patients to support their adherence to prescribed treatments.
- Prioritising health problems and intervening appropriately, to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
- Supporting and managing the health needs of women presenting for sexual health and contraception, and cervical cytology consultations.
- Implementing, and participating in, vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children, including patients travelling abroad.
- Meeting the needs of patients presenting for opportunistic wound care.
- Hypertension review and management.
- Running asthma, COPD and diabetes clinics and reviews.

Essential
- A relevant nursing degree.
- Current NMC registration with an active PIN.
- Ideally having completed the CNO002 Discovering a Nursing Career in General Practice module or the Fundamentals of Practice Nursing course (General Practice Nurse Foundation Programme) however we would still be interested in those applicants with equivalent experience or qualifications.
- Competence to undertake asthma, COPD and diabetic clinics and reviews, holding relevant certificates.

- Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, ECG recording, screening, management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, assisting with minor surgery, dressing and wound care, and recording spirometry.
- Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work. The successful candidate will value the dignity of our patients, their relatives and carers, as well as their colleagues at the practice.
- Knowledge, and experience of its application, in supporting long-term conditions.
- Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS.
