Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a health care assistant to join a forward thinking Primary Care Network (PCN) in north Watford and become an integral part of a diverse clinical team.The position is offered on a part-time basis for 30 hours per week with the successful candidate receiving ongoing educational and professional support.
Working under the direct supervision of the GP Partners and strictly in accordance with practice guidelines and protocols, the health care assistant will assist the practice teams in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
The practices have a commitment to excellent patient care, quality improvement and teaching. It is expected that all members of our clinical team are actively committed to supporting these aims and participate in relevant activities when appropriate.
Main duties of the job
- Promoting new patient health checks, annual health check.
- Understanding normal parameters and when to refer to GPs/Nursing team for further management.
- Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse.
- Assisting practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of patient care.
- Carrying out long term chronic health annual reviews.
- ECG recording.
- Phlebotomy.
- Spirometry.
- Chaperone duties.
- Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses.
- Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment.
- Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording.
- Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation.
- Clearing and re-stock consulting rooms.
- Ordering of medical supplies.
- Checking the crash bag on a weekly basis.
- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations.
- Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being.
- Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual.
- Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted.
- Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being.
