Job summary
Longfield Medical Centre is looking for an experienced phlebotomist to join our busy GP surgery in Maldon, Essex, on a part time basis, with the hours to be discussed at interview. The successful candidate will provide an accurate and reliable service to our patients.
You will be part of the nursing team contributing to the clinical care of patients by providing a high-quality and accurate blood collection service.If you are an experienced phlebotomist looking for a new challenge, we would love to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
- Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
- Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with protocols and procedures.
- Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.
- Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.
- Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient wherever possible.
- Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure.
- Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
- Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff.
- Notifying the clinical team of any significant patient issues.
- Undertaking training and development as required in line with the responsibilities of the post and practice policies.

Longfield Medical Centre has a list size of just over 16,500 patients. Our friendly clinical team consists of 6 GP partners, a salaried GP, GP registrars, advanced nurse practitioners, physician associates, pharmacists, pharmacy technician, community paramedics, nurses and HCAs.
