  • Thursday 1:30pm - 6:30pm
  • Friday 8am - 6:30pm

In this essential front-line role at the practice, receptionists help patients to access the right services, which is not always a doctor, assist with keeping health records accurate and up-to-date, and ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed.

Receptionists must be confident working with the general public, and able to remain calm under pressure.

Previous experience of working with the general public is essential, and experience in general practice and knowledge of SystmOne is an advantage, although full training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

  • Making appointments and giving out appointment cards, where required.
  • Accepting, issuing and handing out prescriptions, letters, completed forms, specimen bottles, etc.
  • Dealing with requests for information, and managing problems and complaints.
  • Advising patients of practice procedures.
  • Registering new patients.
  • Answering the telephone promptly.
  • Promoting the use of online services as a means of accessing healthcare.
  • Chaperoning for colleagues and patients when requested.
