Job summary

NHS Norfolk and Waveney ICB are looking to appoint an optometry fellow for 2 sessions per week for a 12 month contract with each session equating to 4 hours 10 minutes (1 day per week).

This post will offer a suitably experienced optometrist the opportunity to contribute to healthcare workforce transformation, and through working within a multi-professional workforce, to develop and advance the optometristrolein primary care.

The postholder will act as a champion for optometry in primary care, testing and refining innovative ways of working. They will collaborate with system partners to understand current working relationships and build and define optometry services that provide positive outcomes for the community.

Main duties of the job

  • Contribute to clinical workforce development and act in an interface role across the integrated care system.
  • Undertake sessions within this role in addition to substantive employment within primary care.
  • Deliver resources and education to support the integration and increased recruitment of optometrists.
  • Support the Integrated Care System (ICS) to engage with system partners around new optometry roles.
  • Liaise with education providers and the primary care workforce team to develop training pathways that support attraction and retention of optometrist in Norfolk & Waveney.
  • Deliver specific aspects of the optometrist role in primary care strategy including promoting and sharing experiences, innovation, and good practice at local meetings.
  • Be a system leader within the ICB.
  • Support the development of peer support groups, to support continuing professional development for primary care.
  • Participation in local, regional, and national networking relevant to the fellowship role.
  • Plan, organise and participate in stakeholder engagement with practice managers and optometrists.

  • Full registration with GOC.
  • Educated to degree level, plus post graduate diploma or equivalent in a specific field, experience of working at a similar level in specialist area.

Desirable

  • Further training or significant experience in project management, financial management or supporting change management processes.
  • Higher degree or management qualification.

  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Good communication skills.

  • Previous coordination or management or leadership experience either at undergraduate or postgraduate level, within or without health care.
