Job summary

Ashfield Medical Centre, in Beanhill, has a fantastic opportunity for a healthcare assistant (HCA) to support the nursing team within the surgery, on a part-time basis for 20 hours per week, 2.30pm till 6.30pm Monday to Friday.

We require candidates to have previous experience working as an HCA within a GP surgery - this role has a specific set of duties different from other types of HCA roles.

Working under the direct supervision of the practice nurse, and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, you will assist the clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience, skills and competence, requiring you to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Main duties of the job

  • Wound care, phlebotomy, 24 Hr BP, B12 injections, D-Dimer, doppler, INR, removal of sutures & clips and wound swabs. (this is essential)
  • New patient, NHS, LD, SMI and diabetic health checks.
  • Re-stocking and stock rotation of surgical equipment and vaccines.
  • Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms.

  • Experience of performing BP, B12 injections, BNP, phlebotomy, ECG, dressings, diabetic checks, INR, removal of sutures/clips, wound swabs is a must.
  • Experience of working as an HCA within primary care in the UK.
  • Strong clinical skills.
  • Confidence and competence in all HCA duties required for the post.
  • Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Consistently confidential manner, as well as a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and determine own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
