Job summary

South Street Surgery in Bishops Stortford has an opportunity for a full time and a part time receptionist to join our team.

The full-time position will include some 8am starts, part time hours are negotiable. Both will include occasional Saturday mornings on a rota basis from 7.45am - 11.30am.

In this essential front-line role at the practice, receptionists help patients to access the right services, assist with keeping health records accurate and up-to-date, and ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed.

We are looking for two receptionists to join our busy practice team and help make a positive impact on our local community. We would welcome applications from organised, adaptable, and friendly individuals, who are keen to help us provide high levels of customer service.

Main duties of the job

  • Answering telephone calls in a positive and efficient manner; assist with front desk duties, processing prescriptions and e-consults and general administrative duties.
  • Making appointments, assessing and redirecting patient queries over the telephone and via e-consults using the surgery's computerise system. At the request of GPs, return telephone calls on their behalf.
  • Dealing with requests for information and managing problems and complaints with the utmost discretion and strictest confidentiality.
  • Greeting and directing patients.
  • Accepting, issuing and handing out prescriptions, letters, completed forms, specimen bottles, etc.
  • Advising patients of practice procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with managing Partners, colleagues, patients and outside bodies.
  • Registering new patients.

South Street Surgery operates from three premises in the town of Bishops Stortford, providing services for approximately 24,000 patients. We work closely with the other local practices in Stort Valley and Villages PCN to develop our vision for the future of primary care services in this area.

We have Investors in People Award and believe in training and developing our staff. Our surgery has many years experience of teaching, training and developing our staff and trainees.
