Job summary

The Pump House Surgery in Earls Colne has an opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive receptionist/administrator to join our friendly team on a full or part-time basis, hours and days can be flexible.

In this essential front-line role at the practice, administrators help patients to access the right services, assist with keeping health records accurate and up-to-date and ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed.

General practice is a challenging environment that requires a calm and caring approach with the ability to work under pressure. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated team player who has customer service/patient experience and offers excellent communication skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Welcoming patients to the surgery.
  • Taking calls and making appointments.
  • Opening, scanning and matching incoming post.
  • Actioning tasks on the clinical system.
  • Keeping the reception area, notice boards and leaflet dispensers tidy.
  • Advising patients of practice procedures.
  • Registering new patients.
  • Accurately maintaining patient database and records, photocopying, filing and scanning.

We are a well-established rural dispensing practice with a growing list size of 8000 patients. Our team is made up of GPs, nurses, HCAs, dispensers, administrators and management. We are also supported by a clinical pharmacist, physiotherapists, and a social prescriber.

We are committed to quality and innovation within a positive and supportive culture. Earls Colne is a picturesque and historic village situated between Chelmsford and Colchester. The towns of Halstead and Colchester are about 3 & 10 miles distant respectively. There are mainline train services from Marks Tey and Kelvedon to London Liverpool Street (54 mins) and access to A12 at Kelvedon.
