Job summary

Wickham Market Medical Centre has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced paramedic to join our team, on a full or part-time basis, for 2-8 sessions per week.

If you are an experienced emergency care practitioner (ECP) / paramedic wanting a new challenge, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

  • Urgently respond to referrals and provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment at first point of contact by attending to patients, according to patients needs either in the practice or patient homes;
  • Support, and continue the development of, an on-the-day emergency patient service in the practice;
  • Accurately triage and prioritise patients, including in both emergency situations and telephone triage, demonstrating the use of a variety of techniques to elicit the history of an event/illness, including past medical and drug history;
  • Evaluate clinical information from examination and history taking, and initiate appropriate treatment and/or referral;
  • Review the effectiveness of the treatment provided, making changes where necessary to improve patient outcomes;
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in an efficient manner.

The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary, healthcare team, as you will work alongside fellow professionals within the practice in support of one another.

About us

We are a high-performing PMS dispensing practice situated in a lovely semi-rural area of coastal Suffolk. We care for 9,900 patients, with our guiding vision being the desire to provide them with access to the type of general practice we would want for ourselves, our families and our friends.

Our core clinical team consists of four GP partners, one salaried GP, three nurse practitioners, two practice nurses, one nursing associate and three HCAs.

Via our PCN, we are also supported by a paramedic, first contact physiotherapists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacists. Social prescribers, mental health nurses and patient care coordinators provide further support.

We have excellent support from our practice manager and the administrative team, hence the practices Outstanding CQC rating for leadership (Good overall) and a long-held Investors in People bronze award.

  • Be a registered paramedic, with current HCPC registration and have post-registration experience, ideally with some being in primary care;
  • Have completed ENP/ ECP Minor Injuries and Minor Illness course Level 6 and be a ALS/APLS provider;

  • Have experience of working to protocols and guidelines;
  • To exhibit excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills;
