Job summary
Carnarvon Medical Centre is looking to appoint a highly motivated, productive and proactive practice manager, with demonstrable experience in primary care. This is a full time role and the successful candidate will be responsible for organisational leadership, service improvement and delivery of key targets across the full range of clinical and administrative areas within the practice.
This is an exciting opportunity, for the right candidate, to play a pivotal role in leading the practice within a well-rounded, supportive, and stable team.
The practice manager is fully supported by a large reputable accounting firm for book-keeping, tax and payroll. The practice manager is encouraged to be involved in the local practice managers' group who provide great peer support and have a wealth of knowledge and experience collectively.

Main duties of the job
- Maintaining the practice & NHS choices websites.
- Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the practice, ensuring staff achieve their primary responsibilities.
- Functional management of all clinical & administrative staff.
- Direct line management of the following staff: reception, admin, secretaries, practice nurses & HCA's.
- Leading change & continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinating the reviewing/updating of all policies & procedures.
- Coordinating & leading the compilation of reports & practice development plan (PDP).
- Developing, implementing & embedding an efficient business resilience plan (BRP).
- Managing financial elements, including budgets, petty cash, etc. in conjunction with the partners & accountants.
- Ensuring the team reach QOF targets.
- Coordinating the practice diary, scheduling meetings appropriately.
- Liaising at external meetings as required.
- Marketing the practice appropriately.
- Producing practice newsletters on a quarterly basis.
- Managing the Patient Participation Group & allcomplaints effectively.
- Ensuring compliance with legislation and dealing with disciplinary issues.
- Managing the premises, including health & safety aspects.
- Managing the IT system, delegating staff to act as administrators.
- Ensuring compliance with IT security & IG.
- Coordinating projects.
- Ensuring all staff have the appropriate level of training to enable them to carry out their individual roles/responsibilities effectively.

About us
We are a long established, close knit practice in Southend on Sea Essex with a list size of 6,200, very high achieving in QOF, with good CQC reports, and an innovative and open approach to new ideas and thinking. The practice is one of 3 practices situated in a purpose built medical centre.
Our team currently comprises of 2 GP partners, 4 part time salaried GPs, practice nurse, HCA and ANP, all of which are supported by an experienced admin team including trained prescribing admin team.
The practice is part of Southend Victoria PCN with additional shared roles of ANP, paramedic, physicians associate, pharmacist, podiatrist, social prescriber, health care coordinator and mental health practitioner being embedded within our teams. Our clinical system is currently SystmOne. We offer the opportunity to join the NHS Pension Scheme.
