Job summary
Barton Surgery is looking to welcome a qualified dispenser into our busy practice on a part time basis, for 20 hours per week, who will play a full and active role as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
- Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GP's and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme.
- Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
- Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
- Process hospital letters.
- Process dossett boxes.
- Manage ordering stock and stock control.
- Preparation of monthly returns to the Prescription Pricing Bureau.
- Answer and deal withdispensary phone enquiries.
- Monitor patients exemption status.
- Sort and dispose of unwanted/returned medication.
- Any other duties to assist in the smooth day to day running of the dispensary and surgery as directed by the either the dispensary manager or practice manager.

Our practice is well established covering the rural area of Barton-Le-Clay and surrounding villages. There is a branch in Gooseberry Hill covering parts of North Luton. The aim of the practice is to provide good family medicine in conditions conducive to matching the high expectations of our patients.
