Job summary

Due to expansion, Church Hill Surgery is looking to welcome qualified dispensers into our busy practice for 30 - 37 hoursper week,who will play a full and active role as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Church Hill Surgery is a lovely GP practice, with very supportive team members who will help the successful candidate as they settle into their role.

About us

Our practice cares for a patient population of approximately 4,500 and we have been rated 'Good' by the CQC. We operate SystmOne clinical software.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GP's and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme;
  • Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor;
  • Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient;
  • Process Hospital Letters;
  • Process Dossett Boxes;
  • Manage ordering stock and stock control;
  • Preparation of monthly returns to the Prescription Pricing Bureau;
  • Answering and dealing withdispensary phone enquiries;
  • Monitoring patients exemption status;
  • Sorting and disposing of unwanted/returned medication;
  • Any other duties to assist in the smooth day to day running of the Dispensary and Surgery as directed by the either the Dispensary Manager or Practice Manager.

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • We are looking for candidates with an NVQ level 2 or equivalent in Dispensing/Pharmacy services or experience working in a pharmacy. Experience in monitored dosage systems would be an advantage.
  • We are seeking individuals looking to advance their career as this post may lead to the role of dispensary team leader.
  • The successful will be required to be flexible to cover holidays and sickness.
