Job summary

Barton Hills Medical Practicehas a fantastic opportunity for a healthcare assistant to join the practice, to support the nursing team, on apart-time basis, for 30 hours per week covering Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Main duties of the job

Working under the indirect supervision of the senior practice nurse, and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, you will assist the clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Our practice is a small and a friendly environment with 8000 patients. We are a training practice and are part of a successful primary care network.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The main duties include:

  • Measuring and recording following physiological measurements in routine presentations, and for pre medical checks:Blood pressure, blood tests, pulse rate and rhythm, temperature, height and weight - body mass index, visual acuity, venepuncture, ECGs, new patient checks, dressings and diabetes foot checks
  • Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratories.
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.
  • Assisting in raising awareness of health and well-being, and how it can be promoted.
  • Giving accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence
  • Assisting in achieving QOF targets for blood pressure, NHS health checks, etc
  • Assisting in monitoring recalls of pre-diabetic and diabetic patients, send messages, arranging blood test and check ups when needed.
  • Helping in relation to drug monitoring.

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • If you are a qualified and experienced healthcare assistant looking for a fresh and exciting challenge, we would love to hear from you. You will have the following skills and qualifications:
  • Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC
  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent
  • Ideally a qualification in phlebotomy/venepuncture
  • Strong clinical skills
  • Confidence and competence in all HCA duties required for the post
  • Experience within primary care or another healthcare setting
  • Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills
  • Consistently confidential manner, as well as a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues
  • Ability to work independently and determine own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
