Job summary

Goldington Avenue Surgery is looking to welcome an enthusiastic health care assistant to complement our well-established nursing team. As a practice we are extremely proud of our warm co-operative environment, where work-life balance is valued and flexibility is supported.

Main duties of the job

The role is offered on a part time basis and we are happy to discuss working days and hours with the right candidate. We will support you to develop in your role and gain experience and skills where needed.

About us

Goldington Avenue Surgery is a friendly, dynamic, well managed GMC practice based in central Bedford. We are easily accessible to the A421, the A1 and A6, with the practice boundary covering the town, suburbs as well as some residents in local rural villages. We serve a growing list of over 15,000 patients with a mixed demographic.

We are a cohesive multi-disciplinary team who hold weekly meetings and have informal daily clinical liaison time. There is a weekly Nurse Team meeting which you would attend, alongside the Practice Manager and a GP Partner to enable and maintain open communication between teams.

Our diverse clinical team currently consists of GPs, Chronic Disease Nurse Practitioners, Treatment Room Nurses, HCA, Prescribing Urgent Care Practitioners as well as a wide variety of other skills across the multi-disciplinary fields. We are a training practice offering placements to medical students from Cambridge University, F2 doctors, GP registrars, and pre-registration Pharmacists. We have wonderful Management, Administrative and Patient Services teams providing comprehensive support to all staff and patients.

Job responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the role will vary depending on your past experience, however the following skills would be a strong advantage alongside a willingness to develop in other areas:

  • Providing health checks to the practice population.
  • Performing ECGs, BP checks, 24 hour BP and Holter monitors.
  • Phlebotomy
  • Wound management, dressings and suture removal.
  • Diabetic annual physical health assessment including foot checks.
  • An ability to give immunisations would be advantageous.
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, cleaning and recording.
