Job summary
Houghton Close Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for a healthcare assistant to join the practice, to support the nursing team and improve our patient services within our practice. This role is offered on a part-time basis for 12 - 20 hours per week, depending on the successful applicant and will include at least one 9am start and one 6pm finish, as well as cover for colleagues.
Main duties of the job
Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse, and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, you will assist the clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience, skills and competence, requiring you to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Houghton Close Surgery is a large GMS dispensing practice located in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, looking after approximately 11,700 patients.We are a dynamic GP partnership consisting of 6 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs and supportive administrative, nursing and dispensary teams. We are forward thinking, innovative and open to ideas.
We care for our patients and aim to provide them with an excellent quality of care. We are a training practice and also take medical students from Cambridge University throughout the year. We are an active member of our primary care network and are rated CQC Good and are a high QoF achieving practice.

- wound care, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines;
- new patient health checks;
- re-stocking andstock rotationof surgical equipment and vaccines;
- clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms;
- preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations;
- providing valuable health promotion and education for service users, their families and carers.

- Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC.

- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to prioritise workload.
Desirable
- Experience within primary care or another healthcare setting is preferred but not essential.
