Job summary
Flitwick Surgery has an opportunity for a patient services administrator to join our team on afull-time basis or part-time basis.
Main duties of the job
There is more to this role than answering the phone and making appointments. In this essential front-line role at the practice, our staff:
- help patients to access the right services,
- assist with keeping health records accurate and up-to-date,
- ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed,
- are involved in all the background administrative and secretarial work that supports the smooth running of the practice.
About us
Flitwick is a busy surgery, run as a partnership and serving a practice population of 14,250 patients. The clinical team consists of GPs, ANPs/minor illness nurses, pharmacists, practice nurses and HCAs. We are a training practice for GPs and also take part in medical research. We are part of Green Vale Health PCN.
Due to our location in Flitwick, a commuter town in rural Bedfordshire, the practice population is diverse, covering patients of all life stages. We have good links to the A6 and M1.

We would welcome applications from organised, adaptable, and friendly individuals, who are keen to help us provide high levels of customer service and have the following attributes:
Essential
- Excellent communication skills, with a clear and polite telephone manner;
- Ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times;
- Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations;
- Confidence to work as part of a team and ability to "think on your feet";
- Strong IT and administration skills;
- Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.
Desirable
- Previous medical or healthcare receptionist/administrative experience is desirable.
