Job summary
Hellesdon Medical Practice has a fantastic opportunity for a healthcare assistant to join our friendly, nursing team on a part-time basis, for 18 hours per week, times and days to be discussed at interview.
Main duties of the job
Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse, and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, you will assist the clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. You will provide a full phlebotomy service, undertake NHS Health Checks and ECGs, together with numerous clinical/administration tasks.

About us
We are a well-established training practice, involved with GP registrars and Foundation 2 trainees. Our clinical team is made up of five GP partners, two of which are GP trainers, one advanced nurse practitioner, three practice nurses and two health care assistants within the nursing team. We have a supportive administration team.

- Venepuncture
- Coordinate and run INR clinics using INR star
- Blood pressure recording/including 24 hour blood pressure monitoring
- Collection of specimens as directed
- Patients height and weight measurement and urinalysis
- Assistance with minor surgery as requested by GP/practice nurse
- ECG application and recording
- NHS checks (after training)
- Application of basic non-adherent dressings (following direction from nurse/GP)
- Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions
- Act as a chaperone when required
- Assist in raising awareness of health and well-being, and how it can be promoted
- Give accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Desirable
- Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC
- Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent
- Ideally a qualification in phlebotomy/venepuncture
- Strong clinical skills
- Confidence and competence in all HCA duties required for the post
- Experience within primary care or another healthcare setting
- Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills
- Consistently confidential manner, as well as a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues
- Ability to work independently and determine own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
