Pharmacy Technician (Taunton Deane West PCN)

The closing date is 05 January 2026

Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our Primary Care Network (PCN) team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the national transformation program in General Practice, developing a new model of care that supports safe, effective, and person-centered medicines management.

You will work closely with clinical pharmacists, GPs, nurses, and the wider multidisciplinary team to improve prescribing quality, promote medicines optimisation, and support patients in getting the best outcomes from their medicines.

The post holder will play a key role in enhancing repeat prescribing systems, minimising medicines waste and ensuring best practice in line with NICE guidance and national initiatives. Youll also help to embed safe, cost-effective prescribing and contribute to local and national quality improvement frameworks such as QOF and IIF.

This role offers excellent opportunities for professional development, with access to appropriate clinical supervision, training, and support to develop your skills within primary care.

Main duties of the job

Help patients to get the best from their medicines by switching medications to agreed and approved protocols, improving repeat prescribing processes in General Practice, including promotion of repeat dispensing and online ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming to reduce wasted medicines.

Support effective medicines use through patient-facing and supporting roles, including medicines reconciliation and reviews.

Work with the multidisciplinary team to promote safe, efficient, and evidence-based prescribing.

Assist in implementing and maintaining medicines for optimisation processes, repeat prescribing protocols, and electronic prescribing systems.

Provide guidance to staff on the legal and safe handling of medicines, promoting good practice and adherence to policy.

Help deliver national and local prescribing priorities, including antimicrobial stewardship, respiratory care indicators, and medicines for waste reduction.

Liaise with community and hospital pharmacies to ensure seamless patient care during transfers.

Support quality improvement activities across the PCN, contributing to QIPP, QOF, and enhanced service targets.

Participate in professional development and training, maintaining registration with the GPhC and CPD standards.
