Job summary
The NHS Breast Screening Programme in Devon is seeking a Mammography Associate Apprentice to join our Exeter team. This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to combine care, compassion, and technical skill while supporting womens health across the region.
Starting in January 2026, you will receive full training, mentoring, and on-the-job experience to achieve a Level 4 Mammography qualification. You will work across both our static Exeter centre and mobile screening units, helping deliver high-quality breast images and contributing to the early detection of breast cancer.
This role is ideal for enthusiastic individuals who are committed to patient care, enjoy working in a team, and are eager to develop specialist skills in mammography. No prior healthcare experience is required, but a caring, professional, and empathetic approach is essential.
Main duties of the job
As a Mammography Associate Apprentice, you will learn both practically and academically to become a confident Mammography Associate. You will support patients throughout their screening journey, ensuring they feel comfortable, reassured, and treated with dignity and respect.
You will assist Radiographers, Nurses, and Radiologists by preparing equipment, supporting procedures, and ensuring clinics run efficiently. You will gain hands-on experience operating mammography equipment to produce high-quality images in line with NHS standards.
The role also involves travelling across Devon on mobile screening units, working flexibly across different sites, and maintaining accurate records while upholding patient confidentiality. You will receive training, supervision, and support throughout the apprenticeship, developing the skills, knowledge, and professionalism required to qualify as a Mammography Associate Practitioner.
