Job summary

The North and East Devon Breast Screening Service has an eligible population of approximately 180,000 women who are invited to screening over a 3-year screening round. The static breast screening unit is currently located at Matford Business Centre providing a screening and assessment service. Screening is also carried out on two mobile units covering a geographical area including 19 sites throughout North and East Devon which include supermarket car parks, local council car parks and hospital sites. Screening patients are referred to the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust for surgical and oncological treatments.

Introduction:

What you will do:

As Breast Care Nurse at InHealth, you will champion and provide professional nursing care in the support of women undergoing breast assessment investigations, ensuring they are fully supported and receive the best possible care.

 

What you are responsible for:

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in developing and maintaining client services, share information regarding her psychological, emotional, social and physical wellbeing
  • Identify women who may need additional support and gain a clear understanding of treatment pathways
  • Work within the levels of intervention to provide supportive advice and care to patients who fear breast disease or have breast cancer.
  • Provide emotional and informational support to patients and families and to be aware of the need to refer to others if appropriate.
  • Provided support and information to High Risk Familial breast patients
  • To ensure the multi-disciplinary team provides the most appropriate patient-centered care.
  • Act as a resource and advice for all disciplines of clinical staff, using robust evidence-based practice.
  • To ensure the patients have the information required to make an informed decision about treatment options.
  • To ensure optimum liaison and co-ordination of patients care through the pathway of care.
  • Work as a key member of the breast care team to promote breast care across the breast screening catchment area
  • To lead a client centered service which maintains clinical and administrative procedures in line with agreed policies and procedures for both InHealth and NHSBSP.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • An appreciation of client care and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of the implications of the Data Protection Act and Caldicott Principles including GDPR
  • Knowledge on the NHSBSP breast screening programme
  • A good understanding of equal opportunities
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to deal with the public
  • Knowledge and experience of NBSS and Breast Cancer Care (Desirable)
  • Safety awareness skills utilising imaging equipment
  • The ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrable organizational skills
  • A strong sense of commitment, openness, integrity in the role
  • The ability to work innovatively in a work context.

  • RGN with at least 5 years post qualifying experience
  • Supporting women when receiving cancer diagnosis
  • In proactively managing your time and work independently
  • In prioritising tasks for self and the team, and delegating appropriately
  • In adapting to unplanned changes in service delivery
  • In communicating professionally and regularly with members of the public often taking difficult calls
