Job summary

the Membership Engagement Manager will lead on developing and supporting the relationships with leaders of our member organisations, including NHS Chairs, Vice Chairs, Chief Executives and Executive Directors. You will provide a key leadership role in gathering and sharing insights from our members to enable us to represent their views with stakeholders and in the media and to influence policy development at a national level. Through supporting, representing and empowering our members it will maximise the impact that they have on patient care and drive positive change.

Main duties of the job

As our Membership Engagement Manager, you will:

  • Lead on supporting NHS leaders in Wales through developing and delivering a high-quality internal engagement programme.
  • Deliver high quality corporate and secretariat support to the Chairs and Vice Chairs Peer Groups and the Chief Executives Management Team (CEMT) meetings.
  • Coordinate the organisations approach to gather member intelligence and maximising its impact to meet member's needs.
  • Lead on delivering the member offer that meets the needs of members and adds value to the wider system development.
  • Manage the NHS Leadership Programme, including line management of two staff, and developing the objectives for the Programme.

Supporting and engaging with NHS leaders

  • Lead on supporting NHS leaders in Wales through developing and delivering a high-quality internal engagement programme that creates an environment that puts members at the centre of the implementation of our organisational strategy and business plan. This involves leading an engagement plan, developing strong and professional relationships with members and leading the implementation of the Welsh member offer and activities.
  • Deliver high quality corporate support to the Chairs and Vice Chairs Peer Groups and the Chief Executives Management Team (CEMT) meetings to facilitate system leadership through development of collective views.
  • Build purposeful and authentic relationships with NHS leaders, provide support on the most effective ways to respond to requests to support delivery of their work, through ensuring appropriate opportunities for engagement and feedback.

Communications

  • Provide direct support to the Chair of the Chairs, Vice Chairs and Chief Executives Management Team with report writing and correspondence when required.
  • Coordinate the teams approach to gather member intelligence and maximising its impact for internal and external processes to meet members needs, including our events programme and external affair activities (e.g. media, policy, political influencing and research).
Stakeholder engagement

  • Develop strong relationships with NHS leaders and senior Welsh Government officials and propose opportunities for WNHSC involvement in Welsh Government policy development and enhance its visibility.
  • Work with the Business and Events Manager and the NHS Confederations commercial team to develop a proposed offer for commercial partners and associates interested in the Welsh health and care system.
Providing insight and leadership

  • Effectively communicate NHS leaders views and priorities to Welsh NHS Confederation colleagues to ensure alignment of WNHSC messaging and actions across the team, including supporting member events, activities and communications.
  • Proactively contribute membership insight to corporate projects, such as the Welsh NHS Confederation Annual Conference and events programme and identify dynamic speakers for events and communications channels.
  • Support the Director in the development opportunities with NHS Confederation/ the NHS Alliance wide programmes which benefit the Welsh NHS Confederation.
Delivering member services

  • Lead on delivering the member offer that meets the needs of members and adds value to the wider system development. This will be achieved through delivery of key services to members, including reviewing the member offer to ensure our activities make the biggest impact and is value for members and support the team to deliver successful events that are of interest to members.
Managing the NHS Leadership Programme

  • Manage the NHS Leadership Programme, including line management of the Senior Programme Support Officer and Programme Support Officer, and develop the objectives for the Programme.
  • Responsible for ensuring the infrastructure and the delivery of the Programmes administration and clerical support of NHS Executive Directors of NHS Peer Group is implemented.
  • Identify and manage the delivery of joined up activities and information across Peer Groups to allow the Welsh NHS Confederation to add greater value and maximise opportunities which create synergies in cross Peer Group working.
  • Develop, establish and maintain a monitoring system which informs NHS Leadership Programme progress and reports performance to NHS Chairs and Chief Executives.

  • Demonstratable experience of developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, comfortable at influencing and engaging with senior leaders.
  • Demonstratable experience of developing and implementing stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Line Management experience and the ability to support and develop staff.
  • Demonstratable experience of project management skills to proactively coordinate a range of meeting tasks and event planning activities, with tight deadlines and managing conflicting priorities, to ensure follow up actions are communicated, and deadlines are met.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with specific experience in producing high quality communication products for senior leaders against tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrable organisational and project management skills, with the tenacity to drive forward projects from inception to completion, use initiative and demonstrate high levels of proactivity. With the ability to adjust priorities responsively when necessary.
  • Demonstrable public speaking skills, including delivering presentations and providing verbal updates.
