Our Strategic Policy Team are recruiting a new Senior Policy Advisor for Innovation and Life Sciences

Main duties of the job

As Senior Policy Adviser on Innovation in the NHS Confederations strategic policy team, you will lead the organisations analysis, policy development and influencing strategy around the innovation agenda in health.

You will design and lead the delivery of a strategy to support NHS organisations, and influence national policy, as our members strive to develop, embed and scale innovation, as well as:

  • Developing insightful, evidence-based, member-informed policy positions, recommendations and thought leadership as the NHS role in the sector develops.
  • Scoping, project-managing and delivering new projects and partnerships with the government, NHS England and industry
  • Developing high-quality policy and communications products and representing the NHS Confederation externally in this area of policy.
  • Leading a portfolio of work and the development of a high performing team that has a commitment to excellence, optimises its capacity and skills, and can evidence impact.
About you

You have an understanding and are passionate about innovation and life sciences in the health sector, bringing subject matter expertise and anticipating the next big thing in national policy and representing the views and needs of the NHS.

Along with having great communication skills, you:

  • Have expertise and experience in rapidly developing analysis, compelling policy narratives and thought leadership.
  • Can effectively design, project manage and deliver a mixed portfolio of policy and commercial work, on time and within scope
  • Are personally credible and influential with senior stakeholder, with a track record of building networks and partnerships. Are able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and lead others in delivering a mixed portfolio of policy work.

  • Knowledge of NHS and wider health and care policy, as well as an understanding of the specific agenda around innovation and life sciences, including relative responsibilities across the health and care system, key issues, tools and delivery mechanisms.
  • Knowledge in more than one of the following domains of health policy: the governments role in advancing life sciences, pharmaceuticals, medical technology (devices and diagnostics) and medical biotechnology.
  • Experience of analysing and influencing health policy and delivering insightful and influential thought leadership.
  • Ability to effectively design, project manage and deliver a mixed portfolio of policy and commercial work, ensuring it is relevant to NHS Confederation members, timely and of a high quality.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including writing accessible and compelling policy narratives and being personally credible and influential with senior stakeholders and expert networks

Desirable

  • Experience in leading, developing and motivating successful project teams and working collaboratively with partner organisations to build coalitions and achieve shared goals.
  • Experience of communicating effectively across different channels, including speaking at events.
  • Understanding of Government planning, delivery and expenditure on population, public health and social care, such as processes, rules, funding formulas.
