Job summary

Would you like to work as a Physician Associate in general practice joining the newest and most exciting branch of the profession?

We are looking to recruit Physician Associates who will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a patient-facing role. This role is within the East Primary Care Network.

This is an exciting opportunity in which you will gain experience and make a real impact. This role is pivotal to improving the quality of care and operational efficiencies so requires motivation and passion to deliver excellent service within the Primary Care Networks.

Main duties of the job

You should have completed the Physician Associate program and passed the Physician Associate National Examination, be a member of the Faculty of Physician Associates at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP); including PA Managed Voluntary Registration.

You will need to be flexible in your approach to work, as the role will require working in various practices and care homes across the Primary Care Networks, including;

Support management of patients conditions through offering specialised clinics following appropriate training

Provide health/disease promotion and prevention advice

Undertake face-to-face, telephone and online consultations for emergency or routine problems

Using appropriate referral pathways, refer patients to other services

Provide patient care; focused history taking, clinical assessment, diagnoses, treatment and evaluation of care; all under supervision of a named GP

  • Graduation from a recognised/accredited Physician Associate higher education institution

  • MSc Degree in Physician Associate Studies
  • BA/BSc degree prior to undertaking PA program

Experience

  • Experienced or new Physician Associate graduate with associated clinical experience

  • Experience of working within a primary care environment
  • Experience of preventative medicine and management of patients with long term conditions and complex needs
  • Experience of seeing, assessing and treating acutely unwell people presenting in primary care

Skills/Competencies

  • Ability to work well with colleagues and within a team, taking an active role
  • Ability to liaise effectively with the wider healthcare community
  • Awareness of local referral pathways and providing patient care in line with relevant guidance
  • Ability to exercise sound judgements when faced with conflicting pressures, organise and prioritise workloads
  • Sound IT knowledge including use of clinical systems
  • Experience of conducting clinical audit
