Job summary

Following the release of ARRS funding for GPs, we are looking to expand our team by seeking to employ newly qualified General Practitioners (you must be within 2 years of certificate of completion of training at the start of employment).

You will work across our 13 practices in Wigan Central & Wigan North. You will work alongside a range of roles with excellent opportunities for multi-disciplinary team working.

This will initially be on a fixed term contract until 31 March 2025. We have funding for 2 roles of between 4 and 6 sessions, with the option of portfolio working.

Main duties of the job

To perform as an autonomous general practitioner working independently and with other health care professionals to assess, diagnose and treat the conditions of patients attending within a primary care setting. Provide expert professional advice to patients, carers, and colleagues and ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence.

To undertake duties governed by relevant contracts, including objectives of Direct and Local Enhanced contracts.

To be professionally accountable and responsible for all elements of clinical practice in accordance with the GMC code of conduct, ensuring the safety of patients and quality of their care.

The post holder will need to be capable of independent travel across the Wigan Central & Wigan North area and be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the organisation to support practices and PCN service delivery.

This role is a fixed term position up to 31st March, 2025 initially.

Wigan Central & Wigan North PCNs are forward-thinking Primary Care Networks who work collaboratively delivering care to around 108,000 patients across 9 and 4 general practices respectively. These are: Aspull Surgery, Beech Hill Medical Practice, Bradshaw Medical Centre, Dicconson Group Practice, Longshoot Medical Practice, Marsh Green Medical Practice, Mesnes View Surgery, Newtown Medical Practice, Pemberton Surgery, Shevington Surgery, Standish Medical Practice, Sullivan Way Surgery, Wrightington St Surgery.

Joining enthusiastic, dynamic, friendly and mature PCNs. You can expect a warm welcome, doors are always open, and every voice is heard.

We constantly strive to improve patient pathways and health care outcomes. The post holder will play an integral role within the network and will be part of the MDT enabling this to happen.

Our PCNs currently include the following roles and services: Clinical Pharmacists, First Contact Practitioners, Care Coordinators, Social Prescribers (including a Children & Young Person's Service), GP Assistants, a Care Home Service, a Proactive Frailty Service, & a Liver Screening Pilot, as well as various other PCN Leads.
