An exciting opportunity has arisen for skilled and experienced Complementary Therapist to join our well-established team. The role involves working with patients to set and achieve goals, carrying out treatment programmes and contributing to a palliative rehabilitation approach. As part of our multidisciplinary team the successful candidate will support patients with a wide range of advanced or terminal conditions including those with cancer, progressive neurological conditions and advanced cardiac and respiratory disease.

The role will primarily focus on supporting our community service, whilst also contributing to the Inpatient unit and our Living Well Service.

We are looking for someone who works well in a team, is empathetic, has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and can utilise these to build trust while providing high quality care. A Diploma in Aromatherapy or Massage Therapy is essential. Experience in Reflexology, Manicures, Pedicures and Reiki is an advantage, but not essential.

Previous experience of working within the community would be beneficial

Main duties of the job

Regular travel across our catchment area is required, and therefore the successful candidate must have a full driving licence and use of a car. The role will ideally be worked on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Complementary Therapy Team Lead

JOB PURPOSE:

To provide a high-quality complementary therapy service to patients and their carers, in the community, at the Beacon Centre and on the in-patient unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.0 Clinical

1.1 Demonstrate clinical expertise by achieving good emotional support and symptom control as determined by the recipient of the treatment.

1.2 Competently deliver complementary therapy treatments to individuals based on assessment of their needs and where indicated, in consultation with the Complementary Therapy Team Lead.

1.3 Competently run Living Well group workshops.

1.4 Maintain effective relationships with relevant professionals and organisations, liaising about patient care issues as appropriate.

1.5 Work as part of the multi professional team providing excellent patient care, including attendance at MDT meetings.

1.6 Be responsible for the safe use and storage of professional equipment and mediums such as essential oils.

1.7 Work in accordance with the Complementary Therapy Policy and Guidelines and the National Guidelines for the use of Complementary Therapies in Supportive and Palliative Care.

2.0 Professional

2.1 Act within any legal and statutory framework relating to complementary therapy practices in the field of palliative care as set by the appropriate registering body.

2.2 Maintain clear and concise records which comply with the PT policy and procedures on record keeping.

2.3 Appreciate the diversity of skills held by the other therapists.

3.0 Training and Development

a) Team

3.1 Provide support and advice to members of the volunteer complementary therapy team, promoting and maintaining effective team working.

3.2 Ensure attendance at regular team meetings.

3.3 Participate in the PT Process to identify own learning needs and development to meet the requirements of the post.

b) Personal

3.4 Ensure continuing professional development is undertaken as required by the registering professional body.

3.5 Be responsible for ensuring appropriate clinical support is in place through supervision and attending clinical support meetings with the Complementary Therapy Team Lead.

3.6 Undertake mandatory training in line with PT.

4.0 Administration

4.1 Be aware of and adhere to the relevant PT and procedures, especially those relating to health and safety, fire, lone worker and manual handling.

4.2 Effectively manage own time and workload to provide high standards of care.

4.3 Maintain accurate and timely records on EMIS.

5.0 Research

5.1 Contribute to audit and service evaluations, as requested, as part of PTs
