Job summary

Are you looking to expand your skills and work in a multi disciplinary team in a charity run autism specialist non-maintained school based in Nottingham city centre? We are expanding the team and are looking for an empathic, creative and skilled band 6 speech and language therapist, with relevant experience working with children and young people with Autism and learning disabilities, to join us at Sutherland House School, part of Autism East Midlands.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of the Clinical team in meeting the needs of our students through direct and indirect work as appropriate. We work with and alongside teaching staff in order to support students in meeting their EHCP outcomes, using person centred and PBS approaches. As a core part of the school team you will also contribute to staff training, environmental supports and MDT meetings. The therapists at school currently utilise a range of approaches to meet the needs of our students. These include Lego Therapy, intensive interaction, attention autism, and PECS.

About us

Autism East Midlands is a charity offering a wide range of services supporting people affected by Autism, including a range of 14 day and residential services for our adult service users across Nottinghamshire, a specialist school; Sutherland House School (4-19yrs), outreach and family services. We have 2 clinical teams that are based in adults and childrens services respectively. The MDT in school includes Speech Therapists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and assistants. The team is based at Sutherland House School, and you would be joining a group of skilled clinicians who work to support the staff and students at the school. You will have access to CPD and regular supervision.

Essential

  • Qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Membership of RCSLT and HCPC
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Completed courses in relevant qualifications including at least one of the following: Signing, PECS, TEACCH, More Than Words

  • Experience of working with school-aged children and/or adults with Autism and associated complex needs, including high behavioural and emotional needs.
