Active Neuro, the specialist neurorehabilitation division of Active Care Group, is transforming how adults with neurological injuries and complex needs are supported across the UK. We are seeking a Lead Speech and Language Therapist (Band 7) to join our team at Nottingham Brain Injury and Neurological Care Centre, delivering expert, person-centred care for clients with acquired or traumatic brain injury and complex neurological conditions.
As Lead SLT, you will combine expert clinical practice with leadership responsibilities, shaping the delivery of person-centred neurorehabilitation. You'll have the autonomy to influence service development, clinical pathways, and innovative approaches to therapy, helping our clients achieve meaningful, long-term goals, from communicating with loved ones and enjoying meals safely, to regaining confidence in their voice and identity.
Main duties of the job

Innovative tools and approaches: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team using advanced rehab technology such as Luna, Exo Motus, and Arm Motus, delivering integrated and creative therapy solutions.
Continuity of care across pathways: Lead the expansion of outpatient services, ensuring person-centred care continues beyond discharge and influencing new service models.
Professional development and CPD: Access tailored CPD opportunities in areas such as dysphagia management, AAC, cognition and communication rehab, tracheostomy competence, neuropsychologically-informed practice, and leadership skills.
Collaborative, cross-divisional working: Engage with case management teams, care-in-the-home services, and SLT colleagues across the Active Neuro network.
Networking and partnerships: Represent the service in partnerships with organisations such as Headway, the Spinal Injuries Association, and other professional forums, influencing the wider neurorehabilitation landscape.

The role:
As our Lead Speech and Language Therapist, you will:
- Deliver highly specialist SLT assessment and intervention for clients with complex physical, cognitive, communication, and behavioural needs following neurological injury or illness.
- Lead the development and delivery of evidence-based therapy programmes, working collaboratively with the wider MDT to achieve the best outcomes for clients.
- Independently plan, deliver, and evaluate communication therapy groups, ensuring practice is innovative and client-centred.
- Uphold and model the highest standards of clinical care, ensuring practice reflects current national guidance and best practice.
- Act as Key Worker where appropriate, driving coordinated goal-setting, therapy planning, and discharge preparation.
- Provide professional leadership, supervision, and mentorship to junior SLTs and therapy assistants, supporting their clinical development in line with ACG policy.
- Take an active role in the induction, education, and training of interdisciplinary team members.
- Ensure compliance with professional codes of practice, governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to service development, policy implementation, and quality improvement initiatives within SLT and across the wider therapy service.
- Take responsibility for safeguarding within your practice—ensuring clients are protected from harm, empowered to have a voice, and that their human rights are always upheld.
