We're looking for a proactive and compassionate Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our friendly and dynamic team at Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre (BIRU).
Main duties of the job
Frenchay BIRU, part of Active Care Group, is a specialist neurological rehabilitation centre located in Bristol. We provide intensive and expert rehabilitation for adults with a wide range of complex neurological conditions, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, and other acquired brain injuries. As the only Level 1 neurorehabilitation centre in the South West of England, we're proud to offer an interdisciplinary, goal-oriented approach to care that supports people to achieve meaningful and lasting outcomes.
Working under the supervision of our qualified Speech and Language Therapists, you'll play a vital role in delivering high-quality therapy programmes and supporting the smooth running of the SLT service. You'll work closely with patients who have complex communication and swallowing needs, using a range of tools and approaches to make a meaningful difference every day. You'll also collaborate as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, nurses, and rehabilitation assistants all dedicated to patient-centred care and recovery.

What you'll be working:
This role is full-time:
- 35 hours per week
- Monday to Friday
- 8.30am to 4.00pm
- 1 year fixed term contract
What you'll be doing:
- Work safely and independently with patients by following treatment plans as delegated by a qualified Speech and Language Therapist
- Run SLT communication groups safely and independently including collecting the patients, following group exercise guidelines, providing motivation to the patients, and completing appropriate documentation
- Support effective communication with patients who have significant speech and language needs following guidance from the SLT team
- Support patients to access appropriate communication therapy tools electronically e.g., via an iPad app
- Participate in joint treatment sessions along with a Speech and Language Therapist, following their guidance to maximise the effectiveness of a patient’s session
- Monitor patients’ performance / progress, providing regular feedback to the Speech and Language Therapist, making recommendations for review when necessary
- Be confident and competent to independently take patients outside of the unit as appropriate
