Job summary
We are looking for a Specialty Doctor in Rehabilitation Medicine to join the team at The Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre in London. The role is full time (37.5 hours per week).
The Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre has two dedicated units: the Thames Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit (16 beds), is an NHSE-funded Level 1C neuro-behavioural unit for patients with complex cognitive and/or behavioural rehabilitation needs; the Heathside Neuro-disability Unit (18 beds), is an NHSE-funded Level 2A unit for patients requiring complex physical neuro-rehabilitation.
The site is part of the wider Active Care Group Neuro Network (consisting of 25+ sites) nationally. We focus on the use of clinical expertise, innovation and technology to meet patients expectations of rehabilitation goals. We were most recently rated as GOOD by the CQC.
Main duties of the job
There are two wards in our Blackheath site:Thames Brain Injury Rehabilitation UnitandHeathside Unit.Across the two wards we provide assessment, rehabilitation, support and care.
Level 1 Regional Specialist Rehabilitation
This regionally renowned service is for people with complex cognitive and /or behavioural problems following a brain injury or as a result of a neurological condition. They have complex nursing and therapy needs requiring input from a highly specialist Inter-Disciplinary Team, and treatment facilities unlikely to be available locally.
Patients are usually in the very early stages of recovery from their brain injury and are usually admitted from an acute hospital once they are medically stable.
Level 2 Specialist Rehabilitation
This service is suitable for people who require specialist inpatient rehabilitation and have ongoing physical therapy needs.
Our team work closely together to ensure that every team member is working towards the same practical, realistic goals and that all therapies are focused on the areas that will enable patients to achieve those clearly defined and agreed goals.
Our team includes qualified nurses (RMN and RGNs), Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Clinical Psychologists, Social Workers and sessional visits from a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine and a weekly GP ward round. The clinical team are fully supported by rehabilitation assistants and technicians, administrators.

- Support the Consultant in leading the multidisciplinary team that undertakes assessments for admissions to the service within our partner acute hospitals
- Opportunity to learn clinical skills for Spasticity and Bowel / Bladder Management.
- Support leading the multidisciplinary team in the care and treatment of our patients, including weekly ward round review
- Attend family meetings, case review meetings and discharge planning meetings as required
- Practise evidence-based care through national standards and guidelines
- Prepare for and participate in external reviews (CQC, Quality Network reviews); liaison with NHSE and participation in the Pan-London Specialist Rehabilitation Collaborative
MANAGEMENT

- Participate in service development, through research, innovation and local audit.
- Continue strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, particularly our partners in the NHS
- Engagement in National Networks
- Ongoing personal development through CPD and annual appraisal (and adhering to the GMC’s “Good Medical Practice”
- Engage in yearly appraisal
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
- GMC Registered with licence to practice (Required)
- Previous inpatient experience within acute or rehabilitation settings (Required)
- MRCP (Desirable, but we will support those working towards that qualification)
- Working within an inpatient rehabilitation setting treating those with neurological or brain injury (Desirable)
- Evidenced based practice
- Confidence in engaging internal and external stakeholders
- Patient centred, outcomes-based care

- Relevant clinical experience

- Good understanding of the relevant regulatory framework, regulations and legislation
