Main duties of the job

The Laurels Neurological Rehabilitation Centre is a facility with 12 ensuite bedrooms. The team delivers high-quality and intensive neurological rehabilitation; physical, cognitive, functional and vocational assessments; behavioural management and complex disability assessments for adults. We support patients with acquired brain injury, traumatic brain injury, severe neurological conditions, complex stroke and spinal cord injury.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The interdisciplinary team consists of a Rehabilitation Consultant, Neuropsychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. Support is also provided by experienced rehabilitation and therapy assistants. The team at The Laurels work together to develop person-centred, evidence based rehabilitation care plans that aim to maximise the individuals independence and recovery.

What you'll be working:

7.5 hours per week - days and times can be agreed but will be during Monday to Friday

We are open to remote working with 1 day per month in service.

What you'll be doing:

In this role you will deliver a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy service, managing and prioritising a caseload of patients with highly complex speech, language and communication impairments and swallowing difficulties. Using evidence based patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate intervention, that complement working in a specialist inpatient neurological rehabilitation unit.

  • Further develop your skills and knowledge working with clients who have complex cognitive-communication, language and speech disorders following brain injury both 1:1 and in small therapy groups
  • Manage a small caseload, providing goal-focused, intensive MDT therapy in a person-centred, meaningful way
  • Be supported to develop your specialist clinical skills across the spectrum of brain injury presentations. This might include working with patients who have prolonged disorders of consciousness, or require a tracheostomy, AAC or supporting clients to return to work or study
  • Continually develop your own clinical and leadership skills through a widerange of supervision, learning and teaching opportunities, both internally and externally
  • Receive excellent clinical support and supervision with frequent opportunities for joint working within the Interdisciplinary Team
