Job summary

Reporting to the Regional Operations Director, the Home Manager is responsible as the registered manager to oversee the entire service.

The Home Manager will lead and manage the operation of our specialist dementia nursing home, Berkeley Lodge, you will work closely with your management team, providing strong leadership and inspiration. To ensure the highest standards are achieved in all areas of the home including relationship centred care, clinical compliance, hospitality services and business performance.

Main duties of the job

What the home requires in a Manager:

  • NMC Registered Adult Nurse/RGN/RMN
  • Ideally experience of working as CQC Registered Manager specialising in Nursing care for the elderly and frail. Applicants with substantial experience working at Deputy Manager level may also be considered
  • A strong leader, who is able to motivate, lead and support clinical and non-clinical staff
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of CQC essential standards and all legislation relevant to a nursing home
  • Financially aware and able to manage and adhere to budget

Job Summary

The Home Manager will lead and manage the operation, working closely with their management team providing strong leadership and inspiration, to ensure the highest standards are achieved in all areas of the home including relationship centred care, clinical compliance, hospitality services and business performance.

Job specific responsibilities

Leadership and Management

Overall responsibility of the home.

Manage the recruitment and training of the team; ensuring training targets are met and all departments are competent in their roles.

Manage rotas and ensure correct team member levels and skill mix within the home on a continual basis.

Lead, support, empower and inspire the team to ensure positive outcomes for the home.

Overall responsibility for the supervision, appraisal and performance management of the team, supporting them to achieve their potential.

Lead the team to ensure they are all aligned with the South Coast Nursing Homes ethos, and ensure they are implementing evidence-based practice.

Lead regular communication with residents, relatives, external professionals and Directors.

Manage financial budgets to ensure revenue and income targets are met.

Ensure all reporting is completed accurately and on time.

Ensure that all regulatory and statutory requirements are met and company policies and procedures are adhered to.

Ensure any requirements from internal and external audits are actioned within the timescales required.

Clinical Care

Manage the clinical team to ensure that an outstanding level of person-centered care, dementia care and clinical care is being delivered within the home.

Ensure care plans are regularly audited and that they are appropriate to the residents needs and reflect the care being delivered.

Ensure all the clinical team are following best evidence-based practice

Encourage further clinical training to enhance the knowledge of the clinical team and empower them to be competent team members and independent practitioners.

Ensure all residents care is reflective of the care plans with appropriate assessments for all areas of clinical care.

Complete all relevant paperwork to assist residents in their funding for accommodation and clinical referrals in a timely manner.

Non Clinical Care

Govern the Department Managers to ensure the highest standards are being achieved in the welfare of residents, dining experience, cleaning, laundry and home maintenance.

Customer Relationship

Encourage positive relationships with external health agencies

Ensure that the home has strong links and is integrated as part of the local community.

Ensure occupancy targets and fee levels for the home are achieved.

Manage the activity team to ensure appropriate levels of meaningful activity are achieved throughout the week.

To oversee that all staff actively engage with residents in conversation and meaningful occupation related to their lifestyle choices at a level and pace that values the individual and respects their dignity and communication differences.

To respond and affirm that all staff are replying to residents in a timely way, to avoid distress.

Health and Safety

Overall responsibility for Health & Safety within the home for team, residents and visitors.

Ensure risk assessments are completed within the home and safe working practices are being followed.

Ensure equipment and environment is safe within the home.
