Main duties of the job

As a Commis Chef at Avery Healthcare, your primary role will be to assist the Chef de Partie in preparing food and performing basic cooking tasks. You will work in different areas of the kitchen, such as vegetables, fish and meat, and sauces, usually on a six-month rotation programme. You will be responsible for supporting all chefs to manage and deliver catering services, ensuring resident choice, dignity, confidentiality, and safety are maintained. You will also participate in meetings with residents and Heads of Departments to discuss and agree on catering functions across the home and address residents' special needs or dietary requirements, including knowledge of cultural and religious preferences. Additionally, you will be required to prepare nutritional food and beverages to a high standard, as directed by the Chefs, promptly and in accordance with agreed mealtimes, as well as prepare special diet meals as needed.
