Job summary

This is a permanent role as a kitchen assistant at a care home in Gloucestershire. The successful candidate will support the chef in preparing healthy and balanced meals and snacks, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen. They will work as part of a team but also have the ability to work independently when needed.

Main duties of the job

The kitchen assistant will be responsible for supporting the chef in creating healthy and balanced meals and snacks, ensuring a good understanding of various dietary requirements and allergens. They will also be responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in the kitchen, in line with COSHH regulations and health and safety protocols. The role requires good teamwork skills as well as the ability to work independently when needed.

What is required from you?

  • A minimum of 12 months on your right to work in the UK
  • Previous experience in a kitchen setting is essential.
  • As this is a bank role, you must be flexible to work nights, days and weekends as and when required
  • Must be able to drive or live close to the home
  • Chef or cooking experience is preferred

A day in the life of a Kitchen Assistant

  • Support the chef to create healthy/balanced meals and snacks, and ensuring a good understanding of various dietary requirements and allergens
  • Ensure a high standard of cleanliness is maintained in the kitchen area, with good levels of hygiene particularly in line with COSHH regulations and health and safety protocols.
  • Work as a team player, but have the ability to lone work when needed, effectively managing your time.
  • Offer support, communication and engagement to the residents.

About You

You don't have to have worked in care before, a previous role in a different catering environment is great for someone willing to learn. We'd like you to have some prior knowledge of food safety and COSHH. You will be a caring, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual who is able to show empathy to the needs of others.
