Job summary
We are currently looking for anexperienced Activities Co-ordinatorto join our existing team of fantastic mental health experts on a permanent basis at St Matthews Unit, Northampton.
St Matthews Unit is a dedicated residential nursing home in the heart of Northampton. The purpose-built care home provides high quality nursing care and long-term rehabilitation for people with severe mental health problems, including dementia and high dependency nursing needs.
Main duties of the job
- Delivering & arranging activities for residents to provide a stimulating environment to meet their emotional, social, physical & intellectual needs. i.e. group activities and one-on-one sessions.
- To co-ordinate & produce an activities programme, to include both one to one activity as well as group sessions, ensuring that this is circulated for all service users to know what is taking place.
- Manage and execute shopping tasks for residents and the home.
- Organize events such as Resident birthdays, Easter, summer, and Christmas fairs.
- Ensuring the individual needs of service users are met, providing opportunities for individuals to use their skills and enhance their quality of life, whilst maintaining their independence and privacy.
- Schedule and arrange appointments with hairdressers and chiropodists. Being aware of their likes, dislikes, nutritional & cultural needs.
- To motivate, encourage & participate in activities with service users, and delegate to staff, activity responsibilities to ensure that activities are taking place at regular intervals.
- To observe & promote service user choice, independence, dignity, privacy, fulfilment & other rights.
- To help to create a warm and friendly atmosphere within the home, which allows & encourages service users to develop and participate in the running of the home to their fullest potential.

Clinical
- To co-ordinate and implement individual and group therapeutic sessions based on residents individual assessments, needs, preferences, and abilities and keep accurate records and evaluations for each individual resident.
- Distress Management: Handle situations when residents are distressed.
- Dietary Assistance: Encourage and assist residents in meeting their dietary and nutritional needs, including feeding.
- Emergency Assistance: Assist residents with their personal needs in emergency situations.
- Documentation: Ensure all activities are documented in Nourish.
- To contribute to the prevention and management of untoward incidents and ensure quality of life and meaningful activity by encouraging residents to engage in therapeutic activities.
- To always act in a manner that enhances the reputation of the unit and the social status of the residents particularly when collaborating with relatives, visitors, and the local community.
- To be aware of the Unit Policies and Procedures/Operational Policy, and to participate in regular managerial/clinical supervision and staff meetings.
- To undertake any other duties which may be required when requested by the line manager if it is for the benefit of the home and the residents so the needs of the service can be met.
