Essential Criteria

• BSc in biological science; OR relevant experience in a Health & Safety role
• Proven experience in laboratory safety; ORcontainment microbiology and working with pathogens; OR extensive safety management and leadership in diverse fields
• Experience in assessing new and existing systems and processes to innovate and initiate change
• Leadership able to motivate others, encourage teamwork, delegate, and get the best out of people
• Communicationo Advanced communication skills on complex matters and difficult situations, requiring persuasion and influence with excellent writing and presentation skillso Proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely across all formats and at all levels, considering the best method for the audience. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly develop effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Analytical and problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands and situations in a calm and efficient manner
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft software packages

Selection Process

This vacancy is using Success Profiles and will assess your Behaviours and experience.

Stage 1: Application & Sift

You will be required to complete an application form. You will be assessed on the listed essential criteria, and this will be in the form of:

• An application form (Employer/ Activity history section on the application)
• A 1500 word supporting statement.

This should outline how your skills, experience, and knowledge, provide evidence of your suitability for the role, with reference to the essential criteria.

Longlisting: In the event of a large number of applications we will longlist into 3 piles of:

• Meets all essential criteria
• Meets some essential criteria

Shortlisting: In the event of a large number of applications we will shortlist on:

• Proven experience in laboratory safety; OR containment microbiology and working with pathogens; OR extensive safety management and leadership in diverse field

If you are successful at this stage, you will progress to interview and assessment.

Stage 2: Interview (Success Profiles)

You will be invited to a face to face interview. In exceptional circumstances, we may be able to offer a remote interview.

You will be asked to prepare and present a 510 minute presentation. The subject of this will be sent to you prior to interview.

Location

This role is being offered as office based at our scientific campus in Porton Down. Please note that hybrid working is not available for this role.
