Job summary

We are the UKHSA's Emergency, Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) Training team, and we are looking for outstanding people to join us to deliver our priorities. Firstly, in upskilling UKHSA's workforce and, secondly, our mission with key partners (including the NHS and other services) across the country and beyond.

The EPRR Training team is sited within the EPRR Division, within the National Operations & EPRR directorate. The team works closely with the EPRR Exercise team and EPRR Quality, Standards & Improvement team in delivering training across a range of programmes related to EPRR. You will work with these teams to develop provision that is of the highest quality, commands the confidence of the EPRR sector, and remains agile to incorporate lessons learned, to inform future exercises.

EPRR training provision includes the nationally recognised and accredited Level 4 Diploma in Health Emergency Preparedness and Response (HEPRR) and Level 3 Education & Training qualification, as well as Loggist training and more.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver a range of courses in Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) and related areas.
  • Work with key stakeholders within the organisation, to establish learning needs, business requirements and readiness to co-create, co-design, and co-produce a range of EPRR (and related subjects) courses and training/development materials.
  • Maintain training delivery competencies for face-to-face training as well as online, and remote learning, including contributing to the design process of eLearning materials.
  • Deliver across internal and external training programmes, identifying good practice and sharing best practice through a community of practice.
  • Develop, monitor, and deliver a range of training interventions for healthcare professionals to raise awareness and preparedness for Chemical, Biological and Radiological incidents, and other emergencies, including environmental events.
  • Undertake the delivery and facilitation of training courses, including the development and implementation of course evaluations.
  • Establish and maintain networks with key collaborators both within the UKHSA, the NHS, the higher education sector, and others.
  • Contribute to the production of regular quality and performance reports to our key stakeholders, including the Department of Health and Social Care.
  • Actively promote a culture of inclusion, demonstrating visible recognition of the strengths of a diverse team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

As a Training Manager, you will be at the heart of a team of outstanding colleagues including a Head of EPRR Training, Senior EPRR Training Managers and EPRR Training Coordinators.

  • You will meet with team members, and subject matter experts across a range of organisations and professions and turn their requirements into course content that makes an impact and prepares colleagues and the organisation for emergency incidents.
  • Your delivery of this training will directly support colleagues to work effectively in their organisations and will support some colleagues to undertake exercises with confidence.
  • You will have a genuine interest in the teaching, learning and assessment process. You will be an essential colleague in delivery against UKHSAs strategic objectives, as part of our Category 1 responder status to major incidents.
  • You will collaborate with colleagues on a remote and hybrid basis, and will deliver training provision through online, blended, hybrid and in-person methods.
  • As a Training Manager you will be responsible for co-designing and implementing teaching materials on courses within pre-existing frameworks. Training Managers are critical in the training delivery process, ensuring delegates and candidates are learning and can apply their learning.

Training Managers will:

  • work with Training Coordinators to ensure courses are run efficiently and that resources are appropriately assigned
  • Ensure courses are delivered in accordance with agreed standards in EPRR training, and any appropriate assessments are conducted with rigor and in accordance with regulations of the awarding organisation.

Training Managers are responsible for the end-to-end process for teaching, learning & assessment, and will work closely with Senior Training Managers in the design and delivery process, innovating where appropriate, and using best practice in teaching and learning for adults.

The Training Managers will also ensure courses are sufficiently promoted, working with Training Coordinators to ensure stakeholders are made aware of the programme offer, and will maintain appropriate records relating to key quantitative data as required by the EPRR Training team and the EPRR Division.

This role has a travel element (usually within the UK), including overnight stays. Though International travel be required at times.

The other part will be a Success Profiles interview, with a panel.

For the microteach, you will be given advance notice of the topic and teaching arrangements, if selected for stage 2. It is important for candidates to be aware observers are assessing teaching and learning, and not just presentation or facilitation skills.Behaviours to be assessed:
