Job summary
UKHSA's Radiation, Chemical, Climate and Environmental Hazards Directorate is seeking to appoint the Department Head for Radiation Hazards & Emergencies Department within its Radiation Protection Sciences Division. The position requires leadership and management of the relevant department consisting of 40 - 50 staff and a budget of around £2.5M. There is an expectation that the post holder will contribute to radiation emergency response and exercises in a senior role.
Appointment on a job share basis will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide leadership and direction for the delivery and development of the radiation protection services provided by the Radiation Hazards & Emergencies Department.
The duties will include:
- Business planning, budget, and staff management for the Department
- Strategic planning for the department
- Identifying and working with key collaborators within UKHSA and more widely
- Input to national and international organisations on relation to radiation protection standards, guidance and policy
- In emergency situations and related exercises, the post holder will be expected to undertake senior management and/or advisory roles as stated in the RCCE Emergency Plan
