Job summary
The Microbiology Laboratory at Cambridge is the designated regional hub for the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) in the East of England. We deliver comprehensive microbiology services to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Royal Papworth Hospital, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, surrounding districts, and other NHS laboratories. Situated on the outskirts of the historic and academic city of Cambridge, Addenbrooke's Hospital is a premier NHS Foundation Trust, consistently ranked among the top hospitals in the UK. The hospital has close ties with leading educational institutions, including the University of Cambridge, and serves as a prominent centre for biomedical research and education.
We are seeking a dedicated IT Support Officer to support and monitor the hardware, software and laboratory systems across the UKHSA Cambridge Microbiology and Public Health Laboratory (CMPHL). The successful candidate will work closely with the IT Manager supporting all areas of the laboratory IT hardware, and software. The successful candidate will monitor through processes how the hardware is performing, have a proactive approach to problem solving and work closely with the UKHSA, and NHS Trust IT teams.
Main duties of the job
- Develop a good working knowledge of the laboratory IT network infrastructure
- Where required, under the direction of the Performance Information and Finance Analyst and their deputy, assist with routine information extraction, departmental statistics and data handling to specified requirements and in a timely and appropriate manner, using data extraction and presentation tools where appropriate, whilst adhering to Information Governance standards
- Assist with formal and informal training of IT systems
- To contribute to the Quality Management System (QMS) by providing help with IT and software by updating of procedural documentation and involvement in all aspects of audit
- Undertaking of and assistance with risk assessments within the QMS to identify requirements for planned replacement or upgrades
- Develop good working relationships and communication channels with all levels of staff
- Work with IT LIMS Provider on planned & un-planned system downtime, ensuring with the IT manager that communications & risk is at the forefront
- In liaison with the Laboratory Quality Manager contribute to the Quality Management System (QMS) by providing assistance where appropriate with IT and software used in the provision of this system and by updating of EP's and involvement in all aspects of audit
