Job summary

We are recruiting a Consultant in Health Protection, sitting within the Science Group of UKHSA.

The Science Group is seeking to recruit one Consultant in Health protection. The post-holder will work closely with the Chief Scientific Officer and her Private Office to support business priorities agreed with the Chief Scientific Officer and accelerate the delivery of UKHSA's strategic priorities.

Main duties of the job

In areas of responsibility of the Chief Scientific Officer, to lead the development and implementation of programmes of work and provide public health advice to deliver UKHSA's strategic priorities.

Ensure a focus on equity in the work of the Science Group directorates.

Provide support to translate scientific evidence into policy and action and strengthen evaluation of interventions and policies.

Seek international and national collaborations and lead strategic partnerships.

Engage with the wider public health system to ensure UKHSA meets its public health requirements.

Interpret public health and technical data to deliver timely reports and advice.

Support workforce strategies, including retention, recruitment and staff development.

Support programmes of research that are aligned with organisational priorities.

Improve the efficiency, effectiveness and impact of the Science Group and UKHSA.

Ensure surge capacity is available to respond to incidents.

Line-manage and provide oversight of a small team to deliver above duties.

Deputise for the chief scientific officer as required.

STAGE 1 Application & Sift:

This vacancy will be assessed using a competency-based framework which will assess your Qualifications, knowledge and experience and / or skills and capabilities outlined in the person specification. At sift stage you will be assessed on the essential criteria listed in the job advert.

Security Clearance Level Requirement:

Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is Security Clearance.

For meaningful National Security Vetting checks to be carried out individuals need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time.
