Job summary
UKHSA laboratories have accumulated a large number of clinical samples in association with the coronavirus pandemic. We are looking for a candidate to work with a senior project manager to plan, implement, and run a Covid-19 biobank. The biobank will be housed on one or more UKHSA sites and will require travel to different UKHSA sites as part of the role. The biobank will house valuable clinical materials for use in evaluations and research and development activities. It will also be made available to organizations outside UKHSA, including NHS, academia, and the commercial sector, potentially in the UK and abroad.
This role will be based at our UKHSA Colindale site (61 Colindale Avenue, London, NW9 5EQ).
*Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas. Relocation expenses are not available.*

Main duties of the job
The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:
- Contribute to the proper reception, processing, storage, and management of the UKHSA Biobank specimens
- Contribute to the development of new protocols and procedures for tests, or methods, as required.
- To be responsible for the reading, analysis, and inputting of sample data onto the LIMS system.
- Collate and present data for discussion at meetings as required.
- Attend meetings, plan, and implement UKHSA Biobank project plans.
- To be responsible for health, safety and welfare of self, staff, and visitors in your own area, ensuring that health and safety are afforded priority over other issues.
- To ensure a safe and healthy working environment by maintaining adequate safety levels.
- To notify any accidents, incidents or near misses, dangerous situations or shortcomings in health and safety training instructions via the appropriate management structure.
- Ensure compliance of work with UKAS ISO9001 and ISO20387.
- Participate in internal and external audits and implementing corrective actions
- Take responsibility for equipment maintenance and acquisition of samples into the Biobank to ensure adequate service provision and continuity.
- Apply computer technology to the management of biological information.
