Job summary
This post is primarily based within the TB Unit and is within the Travel, acute respiratory, zoonoses and emerging infections and Tuberculosis (TARZET) Division of the UKHSA Clinical and Public Health Group based on the Colindale site.
The Database Manager will work under the Database Developer and with the team of scientists in TARZET, led by Principal Scientists and under the direction of the Head of the TB Unit. You will manage and develop key information systems in the TB Unit, including database management of national surveillance of tuberculosis and other mycobacteria of public health importance. You will also contribute to the further development of the information systems, supporting system users across TARZET. You will also work with colleagues in TARZET to introduce a quality management system for Information Governance.
The TB Unit has brought together clinical and scientific leads for Tuberculosis across different Divisions within the Clinical and Public Health Group, and the post holder will work within a fully integrated Unit to forge stronger functional partnerships with colleagues in UKHSA, the NHS and international leads for TB.
Main duties of the job
- Manage the database and associated data warehouses of the National Tuberculosis Surveillance (NTBS) system, working under the Database Developer and with the scientists responsible for this database including relevant programming for the maintenance, processing, and preparation of data for analysis.
- Provide support for the development and management of other UKHSA surveillance databases, as required.
- Develop stored procedures and views in SQL Server and utilise tools such as Power BI, Excel Power Query and MS Access needed for the management of the NTBS databases, including checks for data quality and cleaning data fields, identifying duplicates, updating user access settings, and matching.
- Maintain code within GitHub repositories and utilise Jira to manage changes
- Work with a wide range of internal and external teams for the maintenance and improvement of the NTBS system. Teams including and not limited to Cyber Security, Technology Dev Ops, IT, Network, Data Governance, Software Development Unit as well as external providers.
- Provide support in the move to adopt new technologies, including utilising cloud-based infrastructure with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Prepare and provide data for reports to external stakeholders, UKHSA and the WHO annual data request.
