Grade & Salary - Grade HEO. National banding - £30,473 - £37,215 per annum. Inner London - £34,463 - £41,478 per annum. Outer London -£32,469 - £39,532 per annum.

New entrants to the Civil Service are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band.

Main duties of the job

This role will require the daily delivery of the situational awareness report in two formats (PowerPoint and PowerBI) ensuring narrative information and health data is reported accurately. You will be required to produce a weekly assessment of the public health situation using the information and data gathered to produce an insightful narrative of the current situation. The dashboard will regularly change as new incidents are stood-up or closed. You will need to work closely with your team and the Data Product Development team to ingest new data and maintain the dashboard. You will also need to speak to content providers to discuss content, data sources and content validation with teams.

About us

We are looking for a HEO to be a public health Situational Awareness Analyst within the All Hazards Intelligence Directorate (AHI). AHI is part of the Data Analytics and Surveillance Group (DAS), within the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).

The All Hazards Intelligence Directorate contributes to UKHSA mission by providing insight and foresight to support health decision making across Government and within the health family. Our assessments put the power of data in the hands of those that need it by describing what the data means; the 'so what' and consider how the picture we are illustrating might change; the 'what next'.

The Situational Awareness team have responsibility for two main functions; the first is assessment and reporting on the UKHSA current public health situation across the Agency and to external partners and, the second is analysis on the public health threat. The team provides continuous understanding of public health concerns from the perspective of UKHSA, provide awareness of UKHSA response activity and highlight any high-level change for awareness.

  • Ensure the daily and weekly production of the reports are delivered on time. Daily product is delivered through a PowerBI Dashboard and the weekly products, to Ministers and the UKHSA Executive Committee are hard copy reports.
  • Provide analytical assessment through quantitative analysis, manipulation of information and current understanding of the environment to draw sound conclusions.
  • Quality assure the reports to ensure content is accurate and is written in clear understandable language.
  • Successfully manage your time to work at pace with multiple ongoing tasks to deliver high quality analysis and insights.
  • Actively seek out and build strong relationships, with/for team, with key stakeholders across the situational awareness landscape within UKHSA.

Deliver the All Hazards situational awarenessreporting via PowerBI dashboard

  • To work with others to maintain the smooth daily running of the Portal, checking datasets have updated, troubleshooting issues, working with others across teams to resolve problems, communicating well with both data providers and stakeholders
  • To support ongoing development of the PowerBI dashboard and apps for the Portal
  • To undertake tasks associated with implementing changes to the Portal, such as improvements to functionality
  • Look to continuously improve the dashboard

Essential skills:

  • Experience in an analytical assessment role that demonstrates that you can find, analyse and manipulate information to draw sound conclusions.
