This post is located within UKHSA's Global Operations Division, led by the Director of Global Operations. Global Operations supports the delivery of UKHSA's Global Health Strategy. It provides a corporate service to UKHSA supporting the oversight, coordination and delivery of UKHSA's international activity and working with UK government departments and other UK partners to build and strengthen international public health links. The division also maintains its own extensive portfolio of global health programs and projects, focusing on technical capacity building and health system strengthening in partner countries.

One of the biggest global programmes within the Global Operations Division is the International Health Regulations (IHR) Strengthening Project (IHR-SP). This nine year (2016-2025) Official Development Assistance (ODA)-funded project is designed to improve IHR capability in selected countries and regions across Africa, Asia, Eastern Mediterranean and the Indo-Pacific.

The post holder will deliver a range of administrative, logistical and project co-ordination activity, on behalf of the IHR strengthening programme team, enabling the delivery of expertise on the ground, in the UK and overseas. The post holder must have excellent organisational, prioritisation and coordination skills in order to meet complex logistical and operational deadlines.

Main duties of the job

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:

SUPPORT TO THE IHR PROGRAMME

  • To provide operational and administrative support to the IHR team.
  • Managing incoming queries
  • Capturing changes in operational ways of working and incorporating these into the programme's SOPs.
  • Working with the HR department to address HR issues for the team including recruitment and HR payroll returns.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • To participate in all mandatory training as required, i.e. fire safety, information governance and all other mandatory training.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal

  • IHR-SP Senior Leadership Team and project managers
  • IHR-SP country and regional leads and subject matter experts
  • Global Operations team

External (UK)

  • Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC)
  • Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO)

International

  • Representatives of UK such as FCDO and foreign governments including Ministries of Health and equivalents.
  • International stakeholder organisations and NGOs including World Health Organisation, IANPHI, Centers for Disease Control
  • UKHSAs travel and events agencies
