PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Pursue a programme of continuous professional development in accordance with any relevant professional registration or statutory requirements, while maintaining appropriate awareness of service provider requirements.
Identify, discuss, and action own professional performance and training / development needs with your line manager through appraisal / individual development plan.
Attend internal / external training events.
To complete all mandatory training as required, i.e., fire safety, information governance and all other mandatory training.
Main Duties of the Job

As a member of UKHSA Data, Analytics and Surveillance you will be expected to work with and support colleagues across the Division. In particular, you will work with and support:

Colleagues in other UKHSA directorates such as Health Protection Operations and Technology.
External
The Data, Analytics and Surveillance role is to support the data and analytical needs of the local and national health protection system. Close working with external stakeholders is important to ensure that we meet their health protection needs.
Key external partners include:
Public health colleagues working in local authorities, particularly those working in health protection roles.
Colleagues working in NHS England and local Clinical Commissioning Groups
Colleagues in NHS England, Department of Health and other Government Departments.
Other external partners relevant to the work of Data, Analytics and Surveillance.
Skills and Capabilities
- Ability to analyse, interpret quantitative data and deliver both written and oral presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Accuracy and attention to detail in own work and the ability to quality assure the work of others.
- Ability to work to instruction and independently, to use initiative and also to work effectively as part of a team.
- Demonstrate capabilities to manage own workload and make informed decisions in the absence of required information, working to tight and often changing timescales.
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Comprehensive skills in the use of at least some of the following to produce Reproducible Analytical Pipelines: SQL, SSIS, APIs, R and Python
- Skills in programming for example data extraction, manipulation, analysis and presentation using functional or procedural approaches in a language such as C#, F#, R, Python or Java. (Desirable)
- Knowledge of big data technologies such as NoSQL systems, Hadoop or equivalent (Desirable)

Essential Criteria:
- Experience in the use of data management methods for extracting, transforming and loading large data sets.
- Experience of working with multiple sets of health-related data and information systems in health-related organisations.
- Ability to analyse and respond to highly complex enquiries around health information from those at all levels e.g. liaising between external data suppliers and senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge of data security, information governance and confidentiality issues
- Line management experience and/or knowledge of the principles of good line management including the ability to manage a project team without direct line management responsibility of project team members (matrix working
- Educated to first degree level or equivalent relevant experience, preferably in a numerate discipline such as statistics, data science, mathematics, sciences, social sciences, economics, geography or similar.
- Post-graduate degree or equivalent experience in public health or related field including public health, statistics, knowledge transfer, health economics or data science.
Selection Process
Stage 1: Application & Sift

Reserve List:
Candidates who pass the interview criteria but are not offered a post will be kept on a reserve list for 12 months and may be contacted if similar roles become available.
