This is a fixed term appointment until April 2025. It is open to external candidates and loans from other government departments.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the role include:
- Lead a workstream to improve collaboration between cross-government statistics producers and deliver more coherent health official statistics
- Collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders across government to build a strong community and ensure collaboration is built into statistics production processes.
- Support and play an active part in the Health Leadership forum and other cross-government networks and identify opportunities to enhance the coherence of statistics across government
- Give practical support and advice to colleagues in UKHSA and resolve issues as they arise to ensure that statistics outputs remain at the highest standards.

Essential Criteria:
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to build, develop and lead high performing analytical teams, and to promote the effective use of analysis and evidence to senior stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, to engage and influence a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including ministers and senior officials.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively, win trust and respect, and influence a wide range of stakeholders and experts within UKHSA, across government, and externally, with strong skills in building and managing relationships across organisational boundaries and complex landscapes.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and conflicting pressures from various stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical skills, to lead, quality assure, and effectively disseminate high-quality, complex data and statistics to gain maximum impact, with practical experience of managing and delivering statistical publications.
Desirable criteria:
- Extensive working experience of the Code of Practice for Statistics and other statistical and analytical protocols and frameworks.
Membership/s
Because of the nature of these roles in supporting the statistics community, we are looking for individuals who are either badged members of one of the analytical professions or who are eligible and willing to undergo badging to the Government Statistical Group (GSG) as part of the selection process for this role.The four analytical professions are:
- Government Statistician Group (GSG)
- Government Social Research (GSR)
- Government Operational Research Service (GORS)
- Government Economic Service (GES)
You should specify which profession you are a member of at the start of your personal statement and state this in the qualifications section of the application form. Selection Process
Stage 1: Application & Sift
This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.
As part of the application process you will be asked to provide a Personal Statement / Statement of Suitability in no more than 1500 words. We will be assessing essential criteria at sift. You will also be assessed against the competency framework at Grade 7 level for the appropriate analytical profession, which will be competency framework for the GSG if you are seeking to be badged as part of this recruitment exercise.
Your statement of suitability should be split into two parts, the first part should be roughly 1000 words (word count over 1,000 will be disregarded and not assessed) and should outline your skills, experience, and achievements, providing evidence of your suitability for the role, with particular reference to the Experience criteria or the essential criteria (outlined in the person specification section). Explain your eligibility to be badged to the GSG, if you are not already a badged member of an analytical profession.
The second part of your statement of suitability should be a discussion of how you meet the following two technical competencies and should be roughly 500 words:
- Use and application of professional analytical skills to real issues or problems.
- Communicating analysis with impact.
It is essential that in your statement of suitability you give evidence, using examples, of proven experience.
Feedback will not be provided at this stage.
You will also be asked to provide information within the Employer/ Activity history section of the application form. This is equivalent to the information you would provide on a CV, setting out your career history. This will be used in the sifting process and will be scored
Stage 2: Panel Interview
This vacancy is using Success Profiles. During the interview we will assess your Behaviours/Strengths/Ability/ Experience/Technical skills. This interview will be conducted remotely via Microsoft Teams
You will be asked to prepare and present a 5 minute presentation to bring out your leadership/technical and professional skills at Grade 7 level. The subject of this will be sent to you prior to interview.
When assessing strengths, we want to find out whether you and the job role are a good fit. We will look at what you enjoy doing and what you do well and often. By ensuring that the role is the right fit for you, you are more likely to enjoy it and perform well.

Reserve List:
Candidates who pass the interview criteria but are not offered a post will be kept on a reserve list for 12 months and may be contacted if similar roles become available.
If you are interviewed for the post and do not meet the required threshold for the specified grade, your application may be assessed against a similar, lower grade role and you may be offered the post should one be available.

DBS - People working with government systems must complete Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks which includes a disclosure and barring security check. Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed for this role is BPSS however there may be a requirement for this role to be SC cleared and you should familiarise yourself with the criteria of security clearance.
