New entrants to the Civil Service are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band.

The internal roles rules apply to existing Civil Servants, i.e. level transfers move on current salary or the pay range minimum, transfers on promotion move to new pay range minimum or receive 10% increase. Either case is determined by whichever is the highest.

Main duties of the job

The two roles will sit in different units with placement depending on successful applicants skills, experience and preferences. You will either focus on:

  • (Strategic Economic Analysis team) Providing strategic analysis and insight.As part of a supportive team, you will apply economic techniques to analyse health problems to influence strategic decisions in the organisation. This includes carrying out cost-benefit analysis for responsive and medium-term projects, but may also extend to exploratory data analysis, writing strategic insights to influence decision-making and enhancing economic capabilities across the organisation. You are open to learning more about the health domain and collaborating with other experts while demonstrating the value that economics can bring to public health questions. You will be supported in developing your ability to undertake clear high-quality analysis using a range of economic and econometric methods and communicating it to a senior audience.

About us

The central economics team in UKHSA is expanding and recruiting two assistant health economists. This is a great opportunity to be part of a growing team which is building the organisation's economics capability and understanding.

You will work with experts (epidemiologists, data scientists and public health experts) to develop your understanding of UKHSA's work, assess the economic costs and benefits of solving health security problems and to analyse how health security interacts with the wider economy. As a new role, there will be some flexibility in the work undertaken but this also comes with the ability for the post-holder to shape the role towards their interests.

The team is very friendly and hosts regular social events. We place a strong emphasis on L&D and collaborating to ensure colleagues feel supported and can continually learn.
