Job summary
At the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA) our mission is to provide health security for the nation by protecting from infectious disease and external hazards. We are a trusted source of advice to government and to the public, focusing on reducing inequalities in the way different communities experience and are impacted by infectious disease, environmental hazards, and other threats to health.
The Field Services Directorate (FSD) was established to provide a national comprehensive service which is geographically dispersed and integrates epidemiological, microbiological, infectious diseases and data sciences capacity and skills delivering surveillance and outbreak investigations consistently of the highest quality.
The postholder will lead on discrete areas of work, including responsibility for the implementation and management of one or more surveillance systems within the Field Service, and will formulate long term plans and strategic directions of these systems. This post will require management of projects and of staff. Within specified areas, the postholder will lead on developing and designing datasets, managing the collation and validation of data, the timely production of outputs (e.g. reports and articles), and quality assurance.
This role is being offered on a full-time basis.
Main duties of the job
The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:
- Lead and manage the technical and analytical aspects of epidemiological outbreak investigations.
- Develop and utilise information and intelligence systems to underpin public health action across disciplines and organisations.
- Have responsibility for the synergistic development of information systems and the harmonisation of local information outputs across the Field Service and in conjunction with other Divisions.
- Undertake specialist and complex analyses of quantitative and/or qualitative datasets.
- Have responsibility for the development of national and local policies.
- Influence external agencies in their public health policy decisions.
- Act in an expert advisory capacity on public health knowledge, standards and practice, to national advisory committees and similar expert panels.
- Contribute to national and local policy setting reports on the health of the population.
- Be a member of the Field Service national team and senior management team.
- Implement the PHE's health and safety policies and arrangements.
- Manage budgets for projects and for R&D grants.
