The mission of the HCAI, Fungal, AMR, AMU & Sepsis Division within the Clinical and Emerging Infections service is to protect people from healthcare-associated and antimicrobial resistant infections, through world-leading public health microbiology, outbreak response, surveillance, research and interventions.

This post within the Surveillance and Epidemiology Section of the HCAI & AMR Division provides epidemiological and data management support across a number of areas. There are a number of areas of focus within the Surveillance and Epidemiology Section of the Division, including but not limited to:

  • Surgical Site Infection Surveillance (SSI)
  • Streptococcal Infections
  • Antimicrobial Resistance and Prescribing (AMRP)
  • Mandatory Surveillance of Bloodstream Infections including Gram negative infections and Clostridium difficile
  • Infections in Critical Care Units (ICCU)

Selection process details

STAGE 1 - APPLICATION & SIFT:

STAGE 2 - INTERVIEW

This competition will involve an interview via Microsoft Teams.

As part of the process, candidates will be invited to interview which will involve an in-depth discussion of your previous experience and professional competence in relation to the criteria set out in the Person Specification.

Your Statement of Suitability should outline your skills, experience, and achievements, providing evidence of your suitability for the role, with reference to the essential criteria (outlined in the person specification section).

The postholder will work within the Surveillance team and will be a member of the Surgical Site Infection (SSI) Surveillance team and will be responsible for a variety of administrative functions that are essential to the provision of a quality service.

Communication and key working relationships

  • Section Head, Senior Scientist (Epidemiology), SSI Surveillance System Manager, Midwife; Applications Support Officer; SSI Information Officer; Management; Infection Control Staff at NHS Trusts and private hospitals.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • With other SSI Administrators be responsible for providing administrative support to the SSI surveillance team, this may include but is not limited to:

- Arranging site visits and travel bookings. Assisting in the preparation of surveillance materials, protocols and reports.

- Handle telephone and email enquiries to the SSI team, relaying these to the relevant member of the team as necessary.

- Coordinating mail-outs, producing and maintaining contact spreadsheets as required.

- Assist in the production of letters and other documents as required.

- Be responsible for maintaining administrative information on the SSI web database.

  • 2. Advise hospital infection control staff on methodological enquiries.
  • Assist with the data validation, reconciliation and activate quarterly reports for participating hospitals.
  • Provide participating hospitals with confidential password to enter data on the SSI web system.
  • Assist Scientific and clinical staff in extracting and preparing data for analysis and reporting.
  • Assist the SSI team in preparing, running and delivering the quarterly SSI Training Days. This may also include support for CSD training requirements.
  • Adhere to Data Protection Act and Caldicott principles in handling and dissemination of data.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the grade, as requested by the Head of Surveillance, Operations Manager or NIS Deputy Director for HCAI & AMR. This may, very occasionally, involve working outside of normal office hours.
