New entrants to the Civil Service are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band.

The internal roles rules apply to existing Civil Servants, i.e. level transfers move on current salary or the pay range minimum, transfers on promotion move to new pay range minimum or receive 10% increase. Either case is determined by whichever is the highest.

Main duties of the job

As a Public Health Intelligence Analyst you will undertake analyses, interpretation and presentation of public health data to provide health intelligence to meet the needs of local and national stakeholders.

You will be involved in the delivery of analytical work for the public and private dashboards and provide support to other public health priority topics driven by the needs of internal UKHSA colleagues and external stakeholders.

Your role will include data analysis, production of health indicators, quality assurance of dashboard products, as well as the supporting the provision of training and translational support so that stakeholders can understand and act on health intelligence. You will work matrix style with colleagues across UKHSA to develop and deliver national health intelligence outputs to prepare for, prevent, and respond to external hazards that threaten the health of UK population.

Job responsibilities

This role involves the collation, analysis, interpretation and presentation of public health information. You will be required to have good working knowledge of the practical application of public health analytical methods, be highly numerate and have good communication skills.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working on a range of projects requiring potentially complex analytic input
  • Analyse and interpret complex data and undertake statistical analyses
  • Supporting the analytical work of other members of the analytical team
  • Use and develop database queries and spreadsheets to undertake complex analysis
  • Check for data anomalies prior to and during analyses, considering corrective action or bringing to the attention of principal analysts as required.
  • Quality assurance of data
  • Organise, interpret, structure and present data into information to support data driven decision making
  • Conduct trend analysis of data to support recommendations, innovation and strategic decision making
  • Liaising where necessary with colleagues concerning issues of data quality and effect on analysis
  • Communicate analytical/statistical matters to non-analytical/statistical professionals.

  • Experience in the use of statistical and epidemiological methods for analysing data sets
  • Experience of working with multiple sets of health-related data and information systems in health-related organisations
  • Experience in using Microsoft Power BI to analyse data and build, develop, support dashboards
  • Experience in the development of systems for the inputting, storing and dissemination of information
  • Knowledge of data security and information governance

  • Perform analysis to support business decisions e.g. assess data, find trends, drill down, assess relationships or causality, create forecasts
  • Comprehensive knowledge of software skills in spreadsheets, databases and statistical methods including GIS, statistical software (e.g. R, Stata, Python)
  • Ability to analyse very complex issues where material is conflicting and drawn from multiple sources
  • Ability to analyse and resolve highly complex information queries and problems
  • High degree of literacy and numeracy
