Working Pattern - Full Time /Flexible Working / Hybrid Working

Grade & Salary - Grade SEO. National banding -£37,056 -£42,481 per annum. Outer London - £38,967- £44,240 per annum. Inner London - £40,876- £45,998 per annum.

New entrants to the Civil Service are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band.

The internal roles rules apply to existing Civil Servants, i.e. level transfers move on current salary or the pay range minimum, transfers on promotion move to new pay range minimum or receive 10% increase. Either case is determined by whichever is the highest.

Main duties of the job

The Lead Specialist Engineer will work within the Specialist Identity and Access Management Team. This small team comprises of a Security Architect, M365 Architect and several Lead Specialist Engineers. The team is managed by the Senior Identity Architect.

The Lead Specialist Engineer will work with the other team members, who between them will work within specified technical specialties and provide technical expertise in the configuration, implementation and automation of relevant technical areas.

Automation is the cornerstone of all work undertaken by the team, this role will focus heavily on developing and maintaining automated processes that underpin key technologies that are supported by the Identity & Access Management Team;

Job responsibilities

  • To assist the Senior Security Architect and the Identity and Access Management Team in ensuring that Security and Identity services are working, documented and reliable.

  • Providing administration and technical support for Windows Servers which host or provide infrastructure or services connected to the Identity and Access Management team as identified in the technologies listed above.

  • Administration of user accounts for network access, including creation of accounts, modification of user permissions, and removal of accounts of staff leaving the Agency.

  • Ensuring compliance with UKHSA ICT Security Policies in all PC and LAN usage in UKHSA as directed by the Senior Security Architect, or other relevant manager.

  • Ensuring the provision of support and service to all customers during scheduled hours.

  • Undertake Appropriate system and service Monitoring and Auditing to ensure service state and availability.

  • To maintain awareness of technical developments in Security and Identity Management with a view to providing advice to the Senior Security Architect on suitable technical strategies for UKHSA.

  • To conduct such work as directed by line management consistently with departmental standards and to agreed time scales.

  • As required, participate in a rota with other engineers for out-of-hours emergency support provision; details of support provided to be agreed with line management.

  • To comply with Departmental requirements for staff management activities, including the reporting of all absences and completion of Performance Development processes.

Essential Experience

  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area
  • Demonstratable PowerShell scripting / Automation knowledge and experience
  • Substantive experience in a technical support role, supporting Microsoft Windows Server Operating System based Identity Management Services
  • Experience/knowledge of Active Directory Group Policy Management
  • Experience/knowledge of Azure Active Directory and Azure resources
  • Experience/knowledge IIS / Web Server configuration, administration, and Hardware Load Balancing
  • Experience and understanding of evaluating and measuring the performance of IT systems
  • Clear communicator with excellent writing, report writing and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately for diverse audiences.
  • Evidence of excellent customer service skills and a commitment to improving services and performance for end users.
  • Skills for communication on complex matters and difficult situations, requiring persuasion and influence
  • Skills for nurturing key relationships and maintaining personal networks
